New Android users in India offered 1GB of free data, courtesy of Google and Reliance
In an effort to stir the interest for Android smartphones in India -- and, to let new customers test drive its 3G network -- the carrier Reliance Communications has partnered with Google to provide 1GB of data usage for all new activations of CDMA Android handsets. The promotion is available to both pre-paid and postpaid customers, who may take advantage of the deal now through June 15th. Once aboard, subscribers will have 30 days to burn through their allotment and discover the joys of a smartphone. Additionally, the carrier will extend a similar offer for new GSM Android activations, which is set to begin on May 5th. Reliance plans to drive its promotion with an ad campaign that sports an Android bot in the carrier's colors -- though, we're still partial to green. Just sayin'.

The robotic cargo ship delivered about 7 tons of supplies, including water, oxygen, food, clothing, experiments and propellant.
The robotic ATV vehicles are designed to automatically dock to the space station. In this photo, the ATV-3 is approaching its parking spot at the Zvezda service module on the Russian segment of the orbiting complex.
The photo shows the ATV-3's distinctive x-wing solar arrays bathed in light from the spacecraft's sophisticated laser guidance system. The starry night sky and the glow of lights from Earth below make up the remarkable backdrop, as the two vehicles fly 240 miles (386 kilometers) above the planet.
American astronaut Don Pettit shared a version of the docking photo on Twitter the following day.
"ATV docks, breathing fire and bringing good stuff," Pettit wrote under the name @astro_Pettit.
?The cylindrical spacecraft is 35 feet (10.7 meters) long and 14.7 feet (4.5 meters) wide. The 13-ton cargo freighter is disposable and will remain attached to the space station for up to six months before it is loaded with garbage and sent to deliberately burn up as it re-enters Earth's atmosphere.
While NASA reported a power issue on the ATV-3 last weekend and a communications glitch on Thursday (April 5), both issues have since been resolved, and all systems are functioning normally, agency officials confirmed.
The European ATV vehicles are typically named after prominent historical figures in astronomy or space exploration. The ATV-3 is named "Edoardo Amaldi," after the famed Italian physicist who helped create the European Space Agency.

President Obama Calls Kanye West A 'Jackass' ... Again

In September 2009, everyone had a comment on Kanye West's behavior after he interrupted Taylor Swift's VMA acceptance speech — even President Obama. Well, it seems like the incident has stuck with the president, because during a recent interview, when he was asked to choose between Jay-Z and Kanye West, he opted for Jay.
In the president's interview with The Atlantic, he of course talked about political affairs, but at some point, the questions veered toward his musical preferences. After confirming that his favorite Throne MC is Jay-Z, the ever-diplomatic Obama threw in a few nice comments about 'Ye. "Although I like Kanye. He's a Chicago guy. Smart. He's very talented," the president said.
The interviewer didn't let the subject drop without mentioning that President Obama once referred to Kanye as a "jackass" when he interrupted Taylor Swift's VMA speech, but Obama didn't shy away from the comment. "He is a jackass," Obama replied, with a perfectly even voice. "But he's talented."
Even without the whole VMA fiasco, it's clear the Obamas have a very close relationship with Jay-Z and his wife, Beyoncé. Jay has been outwardly supportive of President Obama's campaign from the beginning, and B recently joined a group of celebrities who designed personal swag for Obama's re-election campaign.
This week, Beyoncé even penned a heartfelt letter to Michelle Obama, thanking her for being a great role model. "I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to," she wrote. The two have previously collaborated on the first lady's Let's Move! Campaign, which targeted obesity in children. Beyoncé reworked her hit single "Singles Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" into "Move Your Body," encouraging kids to get fit.

Shooter charged with murder of US black teen
Prosecutors Wednesday charged a neighborhood watch guard with second-degree murder in the killing of an unarmed US black teenager that sparked nationwide anger amid suspicions it was racially motivated.
"Today, we filed an information charging George Zimmerman with murder in the second degree," Florida state attorney Angela Corey told a press conference.
"I can tell you, we did not come to this decision lightly," she added after a weeks-long investigation into the February 26 death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, adding that Zimmerman -- who is Hispanic -- was in custody in Florida.
Zimmerman stands accused of fatally shooting Martin inside a gated community in the central town of Sanford, as the teen -- wearing a hoodie on the rainy night -- was headed home after buying candy at a convenience store.
Zimmerman described the teen as "real suspicious," according to police transcripts. Martin's family and supporters say the teenager may have been the victim of racial profiling.
But Zimmerman's supporters say Martin attacked first, breaking Zimmerman's nose before knocking him to the ground and repeatedly slamming his head against the sidewalk. They insist Zimmerman fired in self-defense.
A controversial Florida law allows the use of deadly force when a person senses a reasonable fear of death or serious injury.
A bond hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Zimmerman's new defense attorney Mark O'Mara told CNN, adding his client would plead not guilty.
Authorities booked Zimmerman into jail at the Polk Correctional Facility at 8:30 pm Wednesday (0030 GMT Thursday) on a second degree murder charge.
The case has touched a raw nerve in the US public regarding race and violence -- and O'Mara said his client was "concerned about getting a fair trial."
"There has been a lot of information flowing. I think a lot of it has been premature and maybe inappropriate. I don't think a case like this should be tried here," O'Mara told reporters in Orlando, Florida.
Zimmerman "is troubled that the state decided to charge him," O'Mara said. "I think anyone charged with second-degree murder would be scared."
Corey, who was appointed special prosecutor in the case, acknowledged the pressure that her department had been under, saying "we do not prosecute by public pressure or petition. We prosecute based on the facts of any given case as well as the laws of the state of Florida."
Second degree murder is defined as a killing that is not premeditated. A conviction carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to US media.
"We simply wanted an arrest -- nothing more, nothing less -- and we got it, and I say thank you," the teen's mother Sybrina Fulton said in a Washington press conference after Corey announced the charges.
"I just want to speak from my heart to your heart, because a heart has no color. It is not black, it is not white, it's red. I want to say thank you from my heart to your heart," she said, breaking down in tears.
The teen's father, Tracy Martin, thanked supporters for their compassion.
"This is just the beginning," Martin said. "We will march and march and march until the right thing is done."
In a statement, Fulton thanked "the millions of people around the world" who signed a petition calling for justice in the case that gathered more than 2.5 million signatures.
"We will continue to fight for justice for Trayvon, not only for our family but to help prevent racial profiling from happening to other teens," she said.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Fulton and Martin shared stories of their pain since their son's death.
"It's been a nightmare for the past 44 days," said Fulton, her voice quivering as she struggled to hold back the tears. "I've been up and down like a rollercoaster. But I know that justice will be served."
"As a parent who loses their child," said Tracy Martin, "it's very difficult to maintain our sanity."
Federal investigators are also continuing a three-week probe of the case.
"If we find evidence of a potential federal criminal civil rights crime, we will take appropriate action," US Attorney General Eric Holder said earlier at the annual convention of the National Action Network, a leading rights group.
Holder said senior Justice Department officials traveled to Sanford to meet with the Martin family and local residents and authorities.
The high-profile case even sparked unusually personal remarks last month from US President Barack Obama.
"If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," Obama said, pleading for national "soul searching" over what he called a "tragedy."

The best part is, such online privacy may cost as little as $20 a month, and Merrill has hopes to provide a similarly secure VoIP service at some point as well. Arkansas judge to decide penalty in J&J trial
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) ? A judge will decide how much a Johnson & Johnson and a subsidiary must pay the state of Arkansas, after a jury found the company downplayed and hid risks associated with an antipsychotics drug.
Jurors returned a quick verdict Tuesday in favor of the state, which had argued that Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. lied about potentially life-threatening side effects of Risperdal.
Circuit Judge Tim Fox told lawyers he will read briefs and relevant cases they sent him before a hearing Wednesday to decide how much Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary must pay.
The state is asking for at least $1.2 billion ? or $480 for each of the 250,000 Risperdal prescriptions the state's Medicaid program paid for over 3? years. Previous verdicts against J&J include a $327 million civil penalty in South Carolina that a judge upheld in December. Texas, meanwhile, reached a $158 million settlement with Janssen in January in which the company did not admit fault.
Jurors in Arkansas were not told about the financial stakes during 10 days of testimony, beyond that Janssen could have seen a $200 million swing in its revenues if it issued alarming warnings that the drug could cause weight gain, diabetes and other health effects. The award that Fox will decide would go toward the state's Medicaid fund, which is facing a projected $400 million deficit next year.
Risperdal, introduced in 1994, is a "second-generation" antipsychotic drug that earned Johnson & Johnson billions of dollars in sales before generic versions became available several years ago. It is used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and irritability in autism patients. Risperdal and similar antipsychotic drugs have been linked to increased risk of strokes and death in elderly dementia patients, seizures, weight gain and diabetes.
The 12-person jury deliberated for three hours, just as long as the lawyers took to make closing arguments Tuesday morning.
Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said he pursued the case to protect consumers from "fraud and deceptive trade practices."
Janssen continued to maintain after the verdict that it did not break the law, pointing out that the package insert included with the medication was approved the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The company can appeal to the Arkansas Supreme Court, though that decision would come after Fox rules on the money.
"Janssen firmly believes it did not violate the Arkansas Medicaid Fraud False Claims Act or the Arkansas consumer fraud statute," the company said.
Fletch Trammell, a Houston lawyer hired by McDaniel's office to handle the suit, told jurors during closing arguments that Janssen lied to doctors, saying the drug didn't cause weight gain, diabetes and other adverse health effects. He explained that the FDA ordered Janssen to issue a letter to doctors correcting an earlier letter saying the drug didn't increase the risk of developing diabetes.
Janssen attorney James Simpson argued that neither McDaniel's office nor the state Medicaid office issued any warning to doctors that Risperdal carried greater risks than believed. He also said that even after the lawsuit was filed, the state continued to pay for Risperdal prescriptions.
"That doesn't make any sense," Simpson said. "They never restricted a single ... Risperdal prescription."
Trammell said any action the state did or did not take regarding Risperdal wasn't a concern for the jury. He said it is up to drug companies to notify doctors of any problems with a medication and that companies are obligated to act before the FDA gets involved.
"You have to ring the bell. You have to tell the public," Trammell said.
Trammell said the rural nature of Arkansas makes it more important for drug companies to keep doctors informed. People outside of cities often rely on primary care doctors rather than specialists, he said, and nonspecialists in mental health were prescribing the drug without knowing the full range of side effects.
Jurors had a set of 10 questions to decide ? five regarding Janssen and five for its Johnson & Johnson parent company. The jury ruled in favor of the state on all 10 questions. Only nine votes were needed to reach a decision on any question. Several of the decisions were split 11-1 or 10-2.
