Morning meetings | networking with casual, bantering format | wowdewow

Nathan Goldberg reports on successful system of morning meetings networking with other businesses with the emphasis on bantering casually instead of regimented.

Business networking is now generally accepted as one of the very few ways certain types of business can progress without having to pay a great deal in advertising and other expensive forms of marketing.

I?m not too sure how true that is. I was in the BNI for a number of ?years of morning meetings and I didn?t think the cost of almost ?1000 a year for the privilege was worth it.

Also, and this may be just me, but I?m not at all convinced that the regimented style of BNI is appropriate for most businesses.

One of the truths I think about business networking is we do it to have some sort of fun while doing business. In other words chatting to people, making friends and having a good time. It gets us out.

Don?t pay a penny

Yesterday I went to a very interesting take on morning meetings for business networking in Glasgow. You don?t pay a penny apart from getting a coffee and you have near 100 people in a room intensely networking. And, I think, business is done.

Why I think that is because I got a number of leads which might mean some business.

Without any over organising
The guy who organised it told me that its purpose was to get people just to meet up and get to know other business people without any of the over organised stuff that is so prevalent in other networks.

Its called bantering, the casual approach to business networking. The once a week morning meetings seem a great success. Certainly it worked for me.

Any downside? Very loud and intense. Best in small doses perhaps.

Do you belong to a business network, what do you think of it? Let us know.
