Microsoft Play Lets You Play Xbox Games On Windows 8

published: 2013-01-15 13:50:11

15 new games have been added to Microsoft Play, the new service that enables you to play arcade games made for Xbox Live on any Windows 8 compatible device, so you can take the games with you where ever you go. This should prove to be quite an intuitive step in getting casual gamers more affiliated and amiable toward the Xbox Live and Windows 8 platform(s).

The announcement of the new games from Xbox Live for Windows 8 was accompanied by a trailer, giving gamers a brief glimpse at the 15 new arcade titles that you can take anywhere with you so long as the device has Windows 8 locked and loaded as the OS. Check it out below.

These games aren't something I would touch with a 15 foot pole wrapped in radioactive protective gear but there are a lot of casual/social/non-gamers out there who would eat this kind of stuff up.

I imagine these games are designed for the bustling mobile gamer in an attempt to get them to engage in Windows 8 via multiple platforms. It's a smart move by Microsoft to attempt to expand more OS control outside of the PC domain. There's really no telling if this will work because majority of the die-hard MS supporters who would be willing to adopt to Windows 8 are probably people who would prefer to see real Xbox Live games available on multiple platforms, such as Halo, Gears of War and the Fable games that didn't suck.

Anyway, you can grab the 15 new games right now from either the Windows 8 app marketplace or Xbox Live marketplace. If you're into casual titles then these games will be right up your alley. If you're looking for some new core titles from MS, you'll have to wait until E3 this June when Microsoft whips out the big guns for the next-gen Xbox.
